DESCRIPTION:Before the days of personal clocks and watches, cities kept their inhabitants informed of the time and special events using large drums and bells placed in towers. The drum and bell towers in Xi’an are typical and well preserved examples.
Inside each tower, on a regular schedule are period shows. In the Bell tower it is Ming period musical instruments and dance. In the Drum tower it is Ming period percussion instruments. Both shows are free and are performed about every 2 hours.
OTHER COMMENTS: In between the two towers is a large plaza with an underground shopping mall.
