About China Ski Tours, LLC

Our Vision – That of all the people who want to see China, there are sub-groups who want to see China in unique, activity-centric ways such as skiing and boarding, who may not normally be drawn to tour groups but who realize that the full enjoyment of their China experience may be limited by the language and cultural barriers when they try to “go it alone”  and who would appreciate and be well served by a web based resource of up to date information on the rapidly changing Chinese ski scene from the point of view of experienced western ski professionals.

Our Mission – To facilitate individuals and small groups of specific activity enthusiasts finding the best China has to offer for that activity, along with the cultural heritage of China, by visiting those sites and reporting on them in an information setting that is impartial, direct and up to date.

A Message from Thomas N Tillotson – Managing Director

After 35 years in the Ski Industry (Wilderness Ski Shop/The Balsams Grand Resort Hotel www.thebalsams.com ) I have been consulting in China since 2003. During that time I have met many wonderful Chinese who have shown me a China away from the normal tourist trail. As I learned to speak Chinese, I was increasingly aware of how much richer the cultural heritage of China seems when viewed in context with everyday life in today's China. I began to look at fellow westerners heading to China as, while excited about their visit, missing out on so much that China has to offer. I then thought that since my own travels in China have been largely activity based, such as skiing, that facilitating access by visitors to China to the emerging Chinese ski scene would be a wonderful way to expose those visitors to the real China beyond the typical tourism fare. Finding that the information available on the Web about skiing in China was woefully inadequate and in many cases downright misleading, I began to visit ski resorts and cultural attractions and write about them from a perspective that I hoped would be helpful for readers to understand these Chinese attractions that were well off the normal tourist trail but offered so much opportunity to observe and feel part of modern China. If this information is helpful to you we consider our mission accomplished. If we can further assist you to put together a wonderful China experience, contact us for more details
